Play Money Printable Tips & Tricks:
This free play money printable is super easy to download and print at home. You can print as many copies as you need, depending on the amount of play money you want to create. The design includes 1, 5, 10, 20 and 100 dollar bills, two on each sheet. So feel free to print lots of copies to create a little wallet or bank of bills at home for playtime.
When I use printables at home, I often print at the best quality possible in my printer settings to ensure the color is vibrant. You can also consider using cardstock or laminating your print-outs, so that this play money will last longer through playtime.
Learning How to Count Money
One of the great ways to teach your kids a little practical math is counting money and exchanging money using this play money printable. The real-time interaction and real-life situations of “buying” items in a mock store, really help them learn the practical applications of math in everyday life.
Since my daughter has been very much into running a little shop in her playroom, our DIY printable money has been super helpful in filling up her little toy cashier. I love the process of helping her understand the numbers and value of bills as well as pricing items, making change and exchanging smaller bills for a larger one. It’s all about learning how to count money!
Play Store or Exchange Station
One way to use this play money printable is to help your kids set up a store or shop, where they will interact with customers “buying” items and exchanging money. You can definitely tailor this to whatever toys you have at home. Whether it’s a supermarket, a toy shop or a money exchange station… it will definitely be a fun way to play with your children and teach them some math at the same time.
Use Play Money Printables for Rewards
Also, consider using play money as rewards after chores or in your everyday life at home. Again, I don’t think real-time is very sanitary and there’s always the risk of losing bills and coins around the house. I’m more comfortable with giving my kids play money – almost like they are vouchers that are worth something.. so then at some point they can redeem for actual rewards or a prize of some sort. I think it’s a lot more practical to use play money than real money, especially for younger children.
