Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Wax Paper
  • Paint brush (for your silver food dust)
  • Wilton icing tip #12
  • Wilton Icing Tip #233
  • Cookie cutter (circle, about 2 inches in diameter)
  • Toothpick

Ingredients

Chocolate Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • pinch Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 3/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 stick Butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Icing

  • 1 stick Butter softened
  • 2 cups Confectioner's Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder

Decorating

  • 4 ounces White Fondant divided
  • Black Gel Food Coloring
  • Cornstarch for rolling
  • Silver Food Dust

Instructions

  • Prepare your cookies: in a medium-sized bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  • Using a stand or electric mixer, mix butter, sugar, and egg on medium high. When it reaches a creamy consistency, add vanilla.
  • Lower the mixing speed to medium and slowly start adding your dry ingredients, one third at a time.
  • Once your cookie dough has formed, roll it into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  • Once your hour is up, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • On a lightly-floured surface, roll out your dough so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. Using your cookie cutter, cut out circle shapes and gently place on your lined baking sheet (about 1-2 inches apart from each other).
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes and allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.
  • Prepare your fondant shapes: first, line a pan with wax paper. Take half of your white fondant and add 2 small drops of black food coloring and fold. Continue folding until the fondant turns grey.
  • Lightly dust your working surface with cornstarch and roll out your grey fondant (about ¼ of an inch thick). Using the tip of your Wilton #12, cut out small circles and place on your wax paper-lined pan. Brush the silver food dust on each small fondant circle.
  • Take the rest of your fondant, and add it to whatever’s left of your grey fondant. Add 3 drops of black food coloring and fold until black-grey in shade.
  • Roll out on your working surface (you may add cornstarch if necessary) until about ¼ of an inch thick. Cut out long rectangular shapes and place on your wax paper.
  • Prepare your buttercream icing: using a stand or electric mixer, mix butter, sugar, and milk on high. Once the buttercream starts to form, add cocoa powder. You’ll want your buttercream to form stiff peaks, so add your sugar and/or milk accordingly (only one tablespoon at a time, though!).
  • Using your Wilton #233, frost each cookie with your chocolate buttercream. Then, add your rectangular strips diagonally across each cookie.
  • With a toothpick, add some frosting to the back of each silver fondant circle and add them to each strip of Chewbacca’s sash. Eat, enjoy, and May the 4th be with you!
