Pumpkin Stencils Printable Tips & Tricks
These pumpkin stencils printable templates are quick and easy to use. Just download, print and use as a guide for your pumpkin carving. Here are few tips and tricks to help you and your kids have more fun with this Halloween activity.
Printing Drafts
Since you are using these graphics as a template, there’s no need to print these designs at high-quality. In fact, you can save some ink and print draft quality to get a lighter grey print out. You really just need to see the basic shape, so you can transfer the design onto your pumpkins for carving. So go ahead and download and print at home, without worrying about using fancy paper or high-color settings.
Also remember, you can always change the size of your print out the match whatever size your pumpkin might be. Of course, the larger the pumpkin the easier it is to carve out shapes. If the pumpkin is too small, it might be very difficult to carve out tiny detailed shapes.
Transferring Designs onto Pumpkins
Once you have the pumpkin stencils printed out, it’s quite simple to transfer the design onto your pumpkin. Just tape the paper onto your pumpkin and trace over the outline with a pen or pencil, pushing hard to get the imprint of the shape onto the pumpkin skin. As long as you can clearly see the shape, you’ll be able to carve out the design.
For younger kids who might not be able to carve a pumpkin themselves, the process of transferring designs can actually be their job. Let them go at it – tracing and indenting the shape onto the pumpkins.
Carving Your Pumpkins
Once you have the design onto your pumpkin, you can remove the paper and start carving your pumpkin. Depending on the age of your kids, they might or might not be able to follow the design closely enough or be able to cut the smaller details of certain designs. So before diving in, consider changing your design to make it easier for your particular child. You can also consider carving the difficult parts for them.
Remember that when carving, you can slowly remove piece by piece to make the process easier. You don’t have to follow the outline continuously, like tracing an image, because it might be difficult to maneuver the cutting knife. Instead you can cut part of the outline, then cut inward to remove a piece of the pumpkin. In this manner, you slowly chip away to completely carve out the silhouette shape in the end.
