Color By Number Printable Tips & Ideas
Any type of digital coloring page comes as a download that you can easily print from home. It’s a super easy option that takes just a few minutes to prepare. Here are a few tips and ideas for maximizing all the coloring pages in your digital library.
Printing Draft Quality
Since my kids go through a lot of coloring pages, I often prefer to print the pages in draft quality. This is a setting you can choose depending on your printer menu that basically uses less ink. Most kids don’t mind if the black lines are a bit grey or dotted, so I find that printing draft quality pages works just fine. I usually print on regular printer paper and sometimes my kids prefer draft quality so the black lines are not as prominent next to their coloring.
Honestly, oftentimes having lighter lines actually makes it easier to color when using crayons, markers and coloring pencils. Using less ink means you can print more coloring pages as well!
Change the Colors
This free printable is perfect for little kids learning their numbers and encourages them to follow directions. So they should follow the guide and color up the image according to the colors specified. However, you can print more copies and let them choose their own colors and combinations as well.
It’s actually a good exercise to show them how different an image can look depending on the colors you choose to fill up the spaces. You can definitely incorporate a bit of color theory exploration into their coloring fun time. I always like to add in a bit of learning and information, exposing my kids to as much as possible as their are learning sponges in youth!
Creating a Gift or Framed Image
Although most of the coloring pages my kids finish end up in the recycling bin, sometimes they choose to display their favorites or gift them to relatives. You can actually encourage your kids in making their coloring page a gift for someone to give them a goal for the coloring session.
If you want to use a coloring page or color by number page as the start of a finished gift, consider printing on thicker cardstock paper for a sturdier end product. When your kids are done coloring, just putting the final page in a frame will make it more polished as a beautiful personalized gift for loved ones. Grandmas and aunties always love artwork to display!
For older kids who want to get even more crafty or artistic, consider letting them use other materials for coloring the image. From glitter to colored sand and a variety of paints available, your kids can truly create a masterpiece using the coloring page drawing as a template guide. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
