Dinosaur Salt Dough Fossils Tips
How Long Does it Take to Make?
The best part about our Dinosaur Salt Dough Fossils is that it takes only minutes to whip-up! All you have to do is mix the dry ingredients together (and remember, it only takes two ingredients!), then to fold in the water until a dough forms. Then just like magic, you’ve got your very own homemade play dough!
A Great Alternative to Store-Bought Dough and Sand
What we love most about this activity is that it’s completely homemade. This means non-toxic ingredients are used – so if it’s ingested, it is not dangerous (although we do not recommend – plus, it would not taste good at all!)
We recommend also adding the salt dough into a bin to minimize the mess! This is a great alternative to store-bought dough and/or magic sand!
Have Fun With The Fossils
The best part about these DIY dino fossils, is that you can use all sorts of dinosaur toys to create all sorts of “fossil designs.” We suggest you head over to your local dollar store to pick up a variety of dinosaur toys!
Make it More Permanent
Made a fossil creation that you’d like to last longer? Feel free to add your fossil into the oven! Ball-up your dough then roll it out with a rolling pin. Then, create your fossils and use a cookie cutter to cut them out into smaller pieces. Bake them in a 325 degree oven and bake for about an hour. (Psst: these instructions may seem familiar via our classic Salt Dough Recipe)
Can You Use Kosher / Sea Salt?
For this project, we recommend using table salt since it is more fine – this way, you don’t get big salty chunks in your dough.
