And I love when a craft is super easy. Like so easy my kids can do it by themselves.
I’m not a big fan of crafts for my kids that I have to do a lot of setup for. Or crafts that have to come out looking a certain way.
I prefer to give my kids a generalized idea of the goal of the craft and then let them take it from there and use their imagination and the supplies I’ve given them to do whatever they want.
This craft is perfect for that. And it’s going to look cute no matter what!

Easy Cotton Ball Ghost Tips
Draw a Ghost Shape
One of the only things you need to do to set up is draw a ghost shape on your black cardstock with a pencil. It doesn’t have to be perfect, because your child can create a ghost however they want.
The first time I tried to just hand my kids the blank cacrdstock and letting them kids make a ghost however they wanted. They didn’t really understand the ghost shape.
So then I drew a ghost outline in pencil on the cardstock and they seemed to understand that better.
After that they were able to create the ghost shape on their own without me drawing it for them over and over.
My son even drew his own ghost and then filled it in with cotton balls.
Prepare to Do the Project Multiple Times
My kids loved this! I mean really really loved creating these ghosts.
My daughter asked to do the craft again the next day. She drew the ghost out all by herself and then outlined the ghost with cotton balls and put on the googly eyes.
I have no doubt this activity/craft will find it’s way into our lives a few more times before Halloween.
Do the Project Along Side Your Kids
I find modeling works best. So I did the project along side of them. It helps to show them how to do the craft without touching their paper.
Both my kids get very upset when I touch their artwork, which I completely understand! So I always try to do a craft with them so I can model on my own artwork.
This was a great craft to model proper glue usage. Both of my kids wanted to squeeze out gobs of glue to start. So I explained to them we didn’t need a lot of glue for each cotton ball.
I can show how I squeeze a little glue and place a cotton ball and then repeat. Or how to outline, or generally where I would put googly eyes.
They definitely don’t have to follow my suggestions, but I like to model them anyway. There is no wrong way to craft! So I try not to give too much direction.
Place the Cotton Balls Closer Together
The ghost looks most complete when the cotton balls are squished close together. So try to sandwich the cotton balls as close to one another as you can.
You can even have your kids pull them apart a little bit so they take up more space if needed. My kids really loved trying to put the cotton balls all one direction or outlining and then filling in the center.
Again there really is no wrong way to craft! So let your kids have fun and enjoy the cute little ghost they create!
