Equipment

  • Donut Pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Piping bag
  • Piping Tips

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 6 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/2 sticks Unsalted Butter softened
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • Pink Gel Food Coloring

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and spray your donut pan with cooking oil. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together milk, egg, vegetable oil and vanilla extract.
  • Slowly add the wet ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until all ingredients are well-incorporated.
  • Pour the donuts into the coated donut pan, about 3/4 of the way in each cavity and bake for approximately 8 minutes. Be sure to use the toothpick test by inserting a toothpick into the center of one donut and making sure it comes out clean. Since this recipe yields 12 donuts, you will have to bake in batches (if your donut pan only has 6 cavities).
  • Before decorating, ensure that the donuts are completely cool to the touch.
  • In a large bowl, add softened butter, powdered sugar and one tablespoon of milk. Mix on medium-high with an electric mixer until smooth. Only add the second tablespoon of milk if the buttercream is too stiff.
  • Take about 1 cup of buttercream and set it aside. Add 1 to 2 drops of pink gel food coloring to the remaining buttercream and mix until completely tinted.
  • With Wilton tip #233 attached, scoop buttercream to a piping bag and frost each donut.
  • Scoop the white buttercream into a piping bag with Wilton tip #12 attached and add two dollops on each donut. These will be for the monsters’ “eye balls.”
  • Attach Wilton tip #3 to the black frosting and add pupils to each donut. Serve and enjoy!
