What are Pink Monster Donuts?
These homemade chocolate donuts are an easy dessert that are decorated to look like fuzzy monsters. I used pink buttercream to create the “fur” and some white and black frosting to create big monster eyes.
Not only that, but they are completely homemade, too! So your kids can learn how to bake and how to decorate.

How do You Store Leftover Monster Halloween Donuts?
If you’ve partied long and hard for Halloween but still have leftover donuts, add them to a large airtight container and store in room temperature for up to 5 days. Unfortunately, these baked goods don’t freeze very well, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Can I Use Another Color for the Buttercream?
Absolutely! I opted for pink buttercream “fur” so that it would match a Pink Halloween Party theme, but you can choose any color you want! Green and purple tend to be popular for Halloween desserts.
Are these Donuts Baked or Fried?
These particular homemade donuts are baked. I used a 6-donut donut pan that makes approximately 3-inch donuts.
Buy Pre-Made Donuts
You could also save a lot of time and buy a dozen pre-made donuts. You don’t have to make them chocolate, either. Buy any flavor or variety of donut that you like!
Can I Use Canned Frosting?
Yes, canned frosting can be used but I recommend adding some powdered sugar to make it a little bit more stiff. This way, the “fur” sticks up and holds its shape.
Pink Monster Donuts
Equipment
- Donut Pan
- Electric Mixer
- Piping bag
Ingredients
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 6 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 cup Whole Milk
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 1/2 sticks Unsalted Butter softened
- 3 cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 tbsp Milk
- Pink Gel Food Coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and spray your donut pan with cooking oil. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix together milk, egg, vegetable oil and vanilla extract.
- Slowly add the wet ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until all ingredients are well-incorporated.
- Pour the donuts into the coated donut pan, about 3/4 of the way in each cavity and bake for approximately 8 minutes. Be sure to use the toothpick test by inserting a toothpick into the center of one donut and making sure it comes out clean. Since this recipe yields 12 donuts, you will have to bake in batches (if your donut pan only has 6 cavities).
- Before decorating, ensure that the donuts are completely cool to the touch.
- In a large bowl, add softened butter, powdered sugar and one tablespoon of milk. Mix on medium-high with an electric mixer until smooth. Only add the second tablespoon of milk if the buttercream is too stiff.
- Take about 1 cup of buttercream and set it aside. Add 1 to 2 drops of pink gel food coloring to the remaining buttercream and mix until completely tinted.
- With Wilton tip #233 attached, scoop buttercream to a piping bag and frost each donut.
- Scoop the white buttercream into a piping bag with Wilton tip #12 attached and add two dollops on each donut. These will be for the monsters’ “eye balls.”
- Attach Wilton tip #3 to the black frosting and add pupils to each donut. Serve and enjoy!
