These Unicorn rice Krispies treats will have you believe in all the unicorn magic out there!
My husband always snickers at the fact that I absolutely love unicorns – but I can’t help it! They’re just so darn adorable.
If your kids love to bake and enjoy all things unicorns, then they will have a blast making these magical treats.
This recipe is not for the Rice Krispies Treats – it’s a tutorial showing you how to decorate rectangle Rice Krispies treats to look like Unicorns.
Easy Unicorn Desserts
The entire recipe is in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. First, I have some additional tips that will help you make them.
Kitchen Tools Needed
Ingredients
- 12 ready-made rice cereal treats
- White rolling fondant
- Pink rolling fondant
- Black food marker
- Pink decorating frosting
- Nonpareils sprinkles
Decorating Tips For Unicorn Rice Krispies Treats
Today, I’m adding to my unicorn dessert roster. I’m so proud of these Unicorn Rice Krispie Treats that I made! They’re really easy to put together and are perfect for any unicorn theme birthday party.
Use Ready-Made Rice Krispies Treats
Planning a party is hard as it is. What I love about these Unicorn Rice Krispie Treats is that I use ready-made ingredients as a surefire shortcut.
Yep, that’s right: I went the easy route by purchasing my rice cereal treats, rolling fondant, and frosting. I wanted to place a focus on the decorating aspect to this recipe. When you’re a time crunch, this kind of shortcut means everything!
Optional Idea: Spray Glitter
For a little extra pizazz, spray some edible glitter on the Rice Krispies treats. This will look like you are giving the unicorns a little magic!
Use Fondant
Rice Krispie Treats are like canvases. You can decorate them, color them (by adding food coloring to the melted marshmallow – just like in this dessert I made), and add other fun mediums to make them original.
For my Unicorn Rice Krispie Treats, I added a thin layer of rolling fondant to give myself a clean, smooth surface to decorate.
Edible Markers
Drawing the unicorn’s eyes is extra difficult unless you use a food marker. This marker uses food-safe edible black icing. It’s really easy to use to draw almost anything on the white fondant.
Storing Rice Krispie Treats
Make a large batch of these cute treats ahead of time and they are ready for the party when you are. If you want them to last the longest, freeze them. They will stay fresh in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Or, store them on the countertop covered up with plastic wrap for about 2 days.
Unicorn Rice Krispie Treats
Equipment
- Rolling Pin
- Toothpicks
- Wilton icing tip #32
- Paring Knife
Ingredients
- 12 ready-made rice cereal treats
- 6-7 oz. white rolling fondant
- 2-3 oz. pink rolling fondant
- Black food marker
- Pink decorating frosting
- Nonpareils sprinkles to taste
Instructions
- Roll white rolling fondant on a clean working surface until it’s about ¼ of an inch thick.
- Use a paring knife to trace out the size of the rice cereal treats on the fondant – cut out 12 fondant rectangles.
- Press one fondant rectangle on each rice cereal treat. Set aside.
- Divide the pink fondant in 12 spheres, about ½ an inch in diameter each.
- Roll each pink fondant sphere into 3 inch strips. Fold in half and twist, pointing each one at the end. These will act as your unicorn’s horns.
- Insert a toothpick at the bottom of each unicorn horn.
- Insert one unicorn horn at the top of each rice cereal treat.
- Draw two eyelids (with eyelashes, of course!) on each rice cereal treat.
- Attach Wilton icing tip #32 on the pink decorating frosting and frost each unicorn treat – just below the unicorn horn, on the corners, along the edges, etc.
- Sprinkle the frosted portions with multi-colored nonpareils. Enjoy the unicorn magic!

These are so cute. I think they would make nice treats to have for a little girl’s birthday party. I am suggesting this to my cousin. Her daughter Daniella will turn 5 this June. I would love to help her make these unicorn rice krispie treats for her daughter’s party.
Planning a party is no joke and especially when its for your child who loves unicorns, it becomes a real task. That’s when I remembered reading your article a while ago on Unicorn cupcakes and I decided to dig into your page dear Lisa. And I should admit I am in love with your creativity that you come up, that are unicorn themed. This Unicorn Rice Krispie Treats turned out to be the star and all thanks to you.
I have another idea to make different Unicorn Rice Krispies. Instead of using any fondant, I have a creative idea…I am going to make rice krispies first then I will frost the homemade pink and/or purple cream cheese frosting on top of the krispies then I will add any kind of sprinklers. How does that sound? Wouldn’t that be neat to use cream cheese frosting instead of white or pink rolling fondant? I think it will taste more delicious and fun to eat! It’s my own creative idea! I’m gonna make it someday real soon! Just gotta buy a cereal box of Rice Krispies and marshmallows to make rice krispies. Hope you like my creative idea!
Thanks for sharing your fun idea, Deborah! We’d love to hear how it works out for you.
I am AMAZED that no one commented about using a toothpick to attach the horn… I can envision the kids grabbing one and immediately biting into the horn/toothpick. Do you think the horn could be attached with a dab of icing instead?
Hi Renae, you could definitely try it with a dab of icing though I’m not sure if it would hold as well as a toothpick. If you give it a try, please circle back and let us know how it goes!
Best wishes,
Carrie
