Kids of all ages love emojis! Ok, maybe little kids and adults enjoy them more than teens, but they are a universal language. Everyone knows what the sparkling heart means. It can symbolize friendship or even a romantic love.
Are your teens or older kids interested in cake decorating? If so, this tutorial is perfect for them. Working with fondant can be challenging at times, but these little hearts with yellow diamonds are the best way to practice.
Pink Emoji Cookies
These cute emoji cookies can be designed however you want. I think the pink hearts and diamonds are easiest for beginners. More experienced decorators can make faces on the hearts too.
How to Make Emoji Cookies – the Sparkling Heart
Here’s how I made them.

All the exact amounts you need are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. First, here is a quick list of what you need to get from the store.

- Pinch of salt
- Baking powder
- Granulated sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Butter, softened
- Egg
- Pink candy melts
- Coconut oil
- Yellow fondant
- Cornstarch for shaping and rolling
Emoji Cookie Tips
This entire recipe will make about 12-15 cookies, depending on how big you make them.
Chill The Cookie Dough
In order to decorate them, I used a classic sugar cookie base. So, to make the best sugar cookies for decorating, sift the dry ingredients and then beat the wet ingredients in separate bowls.
Then, slowly add the dry to the wet until a sugar cookie dough forms.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least an hour.
Chilling it is very important because it will make the dough a lot easier to work with when you roll it out and cut out the heart shapes.
Cut Out The Hearts
Once your hour is up, preheat your oven to 325 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Now it is time to cut out the hearts! Dust your surface with flour and roll the cookie dough out until it is 1/4 of an inch thick.
Using your cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes and carefully place them on a lined baking sheet about 1-2 inches apart.
Bake the cookies and let them cool completely before you decorate them.
Create Yellow Sparkle Shapes
To do this, roll 12-15 fondant spheres, about ¼ of an inch in size. Roll another 12 spheres, this time, slightly bigger. Start molding them into diamond shapes. You may need to coat your fingers with cornstarch to avoid the fondant from sticking.
Make Pink Hearts
To decorate, place candy melts and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals or until completely melted. Stir to combine both ingredients.
Place wax paper on a clean working surface. Dip the front side of each cookie into the bowl of melted candy and immediately place on wax paper.
Place your fondant shapes onto each cookie (exactly like the emoji) and allow to set, about 15-20 minutes.
