Welcome back, crafty friends! Lisa here, reporting for family-friendly craft ideas. You may know me best for my blog, Moments With Lisa, where I make homemade meals in our family’s tiny kitchen (since I’m raising a family of four in a 1000 square foot condo!) – so yes, I definitely know what it’s like to make big projects in tiny spaces!

While I am more of a seasoned food blogger, I love crafting with my two sons. They’re very young, and the words “Moooom, I’m bored!” often get expressed in our home. So I’ve made it a point to get creative as often as possible by putting together DIYs and crafts as fun and simple boredom busters.
My favorite part about crafting with my kids is that we use whatever we have at home. I tend to keep a lot of craft supplies, mainly purchased on sale or the local dollar store, because you never know when a creative idea could just pop up!

I love getting creative with hand-tracing DIYs, and this is why recently, my kids and I put together this fun Flamingo Craft. All it takes is a few supplies (which, crafty mamas, you may likely already have at home), and some imagination!

Flamingo Craft Tips
Be Sure That Your “Background” Is a Different Color
Do you really want your flamingo to stand out? Be sure your “background,” which is another piece of cardstock, is a different color. We opted for orange, but white, yellow or even a light blue (it will look like the sky!) can work.
Trim the Hands
Depending on how you want your flamingo to look, feel free to trim down the cardstock hands that you traced out.

We trimmed ours (start from the bottom of the palm of the hand) so that the ratio made sense with our pipe cleaners.
You Can Use Different Glues
If you have a crafting glue that you prefer using, go ahead and use it! When it comes to crafting with little ones is to use what’s best for your family!

We opted for hot glue because it dries quickly and keeps everything together! However, please keep in mind that hot glue guns should be used by grown-ups only. Please proceed with caution.

Flamingo Craft
Ingredients
- 1 8×11 pink cardstock
- 1 8×11 cardstock color of your choice
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue gun sticks
- 2 pink pipe cleaners
- 1 yellow pipe cleaner
Instructions
- Begin by using a pencil to trace one hand on the pink cardstock. Cut out and trim, set aside.
- Cut pink pipe cleaners into 3 pieces (this all depends on the length of your pipe cleaner). You’ll want one piece to be about 4 inches, and the other 2, about 3 inches.
- Give the longest pink pipe cleaner a cane shape (much like a candy cane). Glue it onto your cardstock (color of your choice).
- Bend the ends of the other two pipe cleaners so they look like feet. Glue under the first pink pipe cleaner. You now have the outline of the flamingo’s body.
- Cut a very small piece of the yellow pipe cleaner, about 1/2 an inch. Glue at the end of the flamingo “head” – this will act like its beak.
- Glue the pink cardstock hand in the center, on top of the pipe cleaners.
- Trim around your cardstock. Enjoy!
