My kids love getting crafty, and I’m so very happy about that! Recently, I put together an activity that kept them busy for nearly an hour (straight)! How great, huh? Keep on reading to learn how to make cloud dough – an easy-peasy activity that I’m sure your kiddos will love, too.
How To Make Cloud Dough
All it takes is two simple ingredients to whip-up your very own cloud dough. The result? A fluffy and smooth play dough that the kids will have tons of fun playing with!
What You Need:
Here’s what you’ll need from the store. The exact amounts are in the printable craft card at the bottom of this post.
Kitchen (Or Craft) Tools Needed:
Supplies Needed:
- Corn starch
- Hair conditioner
- Liquid food coloring (optional)

Cloud Dough Tips
Get a Feel For the Consistency
As you’re whipping up your cloud dough, you’ll eventually have to use your hands to knead it in order for the dough to take shape. If you feel like the dough is too sticky, then add more cornstarch, one tablespoon at a time. If it’s too dry, add more hair conditioner, one tablespoon at a time.

You Can Use Food Coloring
It’s definitely optional, but adding food coloring to the mix can be tons of fun. Our conditioner already had a pink-ish tint to it, so we didn’t feel the need to add more color.
If You’re Sensitive to Fragrances, Go for a Unscented Conditioner
This is where I wish I listened to my own advice. Our conditioner smelled heavily of florals (I bought a separate conditioner for this project to not waste my good stuff!), and the kids didn’t seem bothered by it, but I definitely was.
Please bear this in mind. If you are sensitive to fragrances, opt for something unscented!

Go Cheap!
We’re all about saving a buck or two, so be sure you’re not using ultra expensive hair conditioner for this fun DIY dough project. I went to my local dollar store to get mine and it worked perfectly! You can also decide to purchase in bulk if you feel like you’ll be making this DIY over and over again (psst: it’s great to make at birthday parties!).
