Chirp, chirp!
Sometimes, all it takes is fondant, buttercream, and a bit of imagination to create your next sweet treat.
Okay, I’ll admit it. I have a huge sweet tooth. Huge. Humongous. Cavity-inducing. Most likely. And you know what? I have no shame.
All jokes aside, I love to bake. I love, love, LOVE it. Baking was a huge part of my upbringing and I’ve carried on my mom’s passion for desserts into my very own kitchen.
I’m a huge fan of cupcakes. There’s just something about decorating individual-sized cakes and bringing them to life with different elements and ingredients.
Now that Spring is on its way (but, ahem, can you come faster, please?), I decided to whip up a new Easter dessert – in cupcake form, of course!

Spring Chick Cupcake Tips
To help make this process easier, I’ll walk you through the entire process with step-by-step pictures. I’ll even include all the steps in a printable recipe card for you so you can print it out and use it when you are ready.
This recipe will decorate one dozen cupcakes.
Make Sure Cupcakes Are Completely Cool
Wait! Before you start any sort of decorating, you have to make sure that your cupcakes are completely cool. If they’re still warm, your buttercream will slide off and just look icky!
Make The Buttercream
You will first make the buttercream. To do so, use an electric mixer to beat the following ingredients: butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk.
When you beat these ingredients, you will want to start at low speed, just to get everything combined and soft. Then, gradually increase speed to high and beat until all ingredients are smooth and form semi-stiff peaks.
Frost The Cupcakes
Scoop the buttercream into a piping bag. Attach Wilton tip #12 and frost the center of each cupcake.
Make Easter Chicks Out Of Cupcakes
To prepare the fondant chicks, roll out 12 ovals from your yellow fondant, about 1 inch in size. Then roll out 12 spheres, about ½ an inch in size.
Insert one oval into your toothpick, followed by the sphere. Using scissors, cut out a slit from each side of the oval-shaped fondant – these will act as your chick’s wings.
Create 12 small spheres from your orange fondant and shape them into triangles. Place on the center of each circle sphere and press down – they will act as your chick’s beak.
Use your black marker to draw out two dots for eyes on each chick.
Insert one fondant chick into each cupcake. Top off with 2-3 candy eggs. Serve!
