Halloween baking is one of my favorite things to do in the kitchen. There’s something so amusing about creating Halloween treats – for me, it’s definitely up there with Christmas desserts.
I am always up for a good crinkle cookie. Remember the time I whipped up a batch of pink crinkle cookies? Well, today, I’m taking that recipe and giving it a Halloween makeover!
Cake Mix Cookies
I have never made crinkle cookies from scratch. My surefire recipe uses a cake mix, and I’m all about it! Anything that’s easy gets a huge thumbs up in my books.
I love transforming cake mix into different kinds of recipes. Yup! You read right. Cake mix can go beyond its traditional role of ready-made cake. Today, I’m here to show you how to turn a regular box of cake mix into an interesting batch of Halloween cookies.
The best part about these Monster Cookies is that you can get totally creative with them. We opted for green cookies, but you can divide your batter and color each batch a variety of shades. (Psst: purple monsters are super cute!)
Ingredients to Make Monster Cookies
These Monster Cookies consist of the following (very simple!) ingredients:
- Vanilla cake mix
- Vegetable oil
- Green gel food coloring
- Granulated sugar
- Powdered sugar
- White frosting
- Black fondant
…and that’s really it! You probably have the majority of these cookies in your pantry.
How to Make Halloween Monster Cookies
Okay, okay – enough with my blabbing! Check out the surefire recipe (just below!) for my adorably spooky Halloween Monster Cookies. Enjoy!
Halloween Monster Cookies
- 3 cups vanilla cake mix about one standard box
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp green gel food coloring
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup white frosting
- Black decorating frosting
- Mix cake mix, oil and eggs in a large bowl.
- Add gel food coloring to the batter and mix until completely tinted.
- Pour each sugar in its own bowl.
- Roll about 1 ½ tablespoons worth of batter into bowl of granulated sugar, forming it into a ball about 1 ½ inches in size.
- Next, roll coated cookie ball into powdered sugar.
- Set each cookie on the lined cookie sheet, about 2 inches away from each other.
- Bake for 11 to 13 minutes and allow to cool before decorating.
- Scoop white frosting into a piping bag with Wilton tip #8 attached.
- Attach Wilton tip #3 to the black decorating frosting.
- Pipe out white circles on each cookie, about 3-4 on each. Next, top each white circle with black frosting, smaller than the white circle.
