What are some boredom busters for kids during the cold winter days? Because, let’s be honest, you probably hear, ““I’m so bored!” or the famous: “There’s nothing to dooooo around here!” so much!
I feel ya.
Whenever I hop on a new project with my little one, he often asks, “Okay, what’s next?” It boggles my mind! We’ve hardly scratched the surface of our current activity, and he’s already bored?!
My mind is always racing, trying to think of my next best craft/activity/boredom buster idea. I aim to develop projects and DIYs that will spark my son’s interest.
This is how I came up with my latest Christmas craft: Toilet Paper Snowmen!
DIY Holiday Décor
This year, my toddler has shown a huge interest in helping with holiday décor. When we set up the tree, he was in complete awe.
Then, it dawned on me: let’s make some sort of kid-friendly holiday décor DIY. This is how I came up with the idea of my Snowman Toilet Paper Roll Craft – the perfect Christmas project!
How To Make Toilet Paper Roll Snowman
If you have empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls around the house, then put them to good use. These are fun for kids of all ages!
What You Need
Here’s what you’ll need from the store. The exact amounts are in the printable craft card at the bottom of this post.
Craft Tools:
- Paintbrushes
- Newspaper (to prevent messes)
- Cup of water
- Markers
Supplies
- Acrylic Paint
- Craft or Toilet Paper Rolls
- Pipe Cleaners
Tips
All the exact steps are in the printable craft card at the bottom of the post. First, I wanted to share a few more tips that will help you make a perfect snowman the first time.
Keep It Simple
When I was researching toddler-friendly DIYs, a lot of the crafts I spotted seemed so complicated. I wanted to put together a festive DIY that didn’t take much effort nor a long list of supplies. So out came my Snowman DIY!
Keep this simple. Don’t overcomplicate it! Let your kids decorate their crafts however they want – that’s the fun part!
Limited Supplies? No Problem!
Supplies have been… er- lacking in my craft drawer recently. This year has been a crazy one, and admittedly, I’ve slacked on the replenishment of my art supplies.
There are a lot of different ways to use what you have. Here are a few variations:
- No white paint – wrap and glue printer paper around the craft tubes
- No markers – use colored pencils, paint, or crayons
- No pipe cleaners – cut up scraps of fabric or use whatever ribbons you can find!
Contain The Mess
This could potentially be a very messy craft if you have young children. I suggest cutting open a large trash bag and laying it on the floor or table so that it protects everything.
Another way to prevent a big mess is to use an ice cube tray to hold the paint. This way, they only get a little bit of paint at a time and it won’t make a big mess if it spills.

Let It Dry Properly
The most difficult part of the craft for your kids might be waiting until the toilet paper rolls are finished drying so they can decorate them.
You can either speed up the process with a hair dryer or prepare the rolls for them! Hand them white toilet paper rolls and then they can decorate them immediately.
