Printable Kindergarten Worksheets: Tips on Using
Printing at Home
When it comes to printing at home, it’s good to double-check your settings before hitting the print button. This makes it so you are less likely to make a mistake printing and waste paper.
As always, remember to check the print preview and your paper size before printing these kindergarten worksheets. Every printer brand will have its own unique settings menu, but you will always be able to check preview, paper size and print quality.
For worksheets that your kids will go through quickly or might want multiple copies of, I often find that printing at draft quality is sufficient. This setting means that your printer will use less ink and print out the pages faster – as opposed to maximum for photos, for example. You will save ink while printing multiple copies and your kids will still be able to read and see all the lines without issues.
Especially when kids like to use crayons or markers on paper, it’s actual nice to get lighter print-outs, so the black lines don’t stand out too much! So test out your print options and find the best settings for your kids and personal preferences.
Using These Printable Kindergarten Worksheets
The free printable PDF includes 3 pages of worksheets to help with the process of learning basic geometric shapes. There’s a page on recognizing the different shapes, basically introducing them visually and by labelled by name.
Then there’s another page focused on tracing the shapes introduced. Each shape is labelled with examples appearing with dotted lines for tracing. The orientation of the shape sometimes changes as well, so kids can understand the shape can be rotated. This worksheet is a great one to repeat multiple times, so you can let your kids practice drawing the shapes.
Finally the last page worksheet focuses on matching the word of the shape with the shape itself, which you can connect with lines or color the same colors for matching. It’s like a summary worksheet to see if your kids have learned to recognize the shapes and words!
Make it a Game
Finally, when it comes to printable kindergarten worksheets, sometimes it might seem like more homework for your kids. What if they don’t want to fill them out or use them at all?
Well, one way to motivate your kids is to make it a game or challenge with rewards for completion. It’s just an easy way to get them to do things even when it might seem like a chore.
You might let them color or trace with a different kind of art material that they don’t usually get to use, so it’s special – like paints! If you have more than one child, you can make it a competition to see who will finish first.
Another great game idea is to look for items in the house or kitchen that match the shapes they are learning. You can change the theme up each time, such as toys with the same shapes, foods with the same shapes or architecture when you are out in the town with the same shapes. That will help them with recognition and take learning into your everyday lives as well.
